For most homes in Madison, an annual chimney cleaning is recommended, especially if you use your fireplace regularly during the fall and winter. If you only use your fireplace occasionally, you might be able to extend this to every two years. However, it's always a good idea to have it inspected yearly to catch any potential issues early. Schedule your annual service.

Watch for a strong, sooty odor coming from the fireplace, especially when not in use. If you see creosote flakes or soot falling from the damper, it's a warning sign. Smoke backing up into the room instead of going up the chimney is another indicator. Difficulty starting a fire or a chimney that appears darker than usual are also signs. These suggest it's time for service.

A professional inspection in Madison checks the chimney's exterior and interior. This includes looking for cracks in the masonry or flue liner, blockages, and signs of water damage. They'll assess the condition of the smoke chamber, damper, and firebox. The inspection ensures the chimney is structurally sound and free from hazards. They'll explain their findings.
